In order for cats and their owners to live comfortably side by side with each other, the correct selection of litter for the toilet is not the last place. There are many types of these litters now, and it can be difficult to figure out which one is right for your cat.
Not so long ago, torn pieces of newspaper or sand were used as toilet fillers. But such material can hardly be called hygienic, it can pose a danger to the health of those living in the apartment - both people and cats.
If the price is of prime importance when choosing a filler for you, it is better to stay on wood, which is quite inexpensive. The next in price will be mineral fillers produced in the form of granules, and silica gel is considered the most expensive.
Mineral fillers will absorb moisture along with the smell - thus forming a lump of wet granules. It can be removed from the tray with a special spatula. They do not stick to the paws of the animal, but they absolutely should not be used for a kitten's toilet. Small kittens can also swallow pellets.
Wood filler is sawdust from coniferous trees, compressed into granules. Suitable for cats and small kittens. They do not gather into a lump, but crumble. Such granules can be sent to the sewer - this will not harm the pipes. But such a filler will have to be changed more often than a mineral one. There are also materials that resemble woody ones - they are made from grain waste, but they are still a rarity in our pet stores.
Silica gel fillers are considered the most expensive, but also the best. They absorb both odors and moisture well, create an environment in which bacteria are not allowed to grow, and replacement is extremely rare - about once every 3 weeks. Only solid waste will need to be removed from the tray.
You can also purchase an automatic cat litter box - then you don't have to bother with replacing the litter.
But the main criterion for choosing a toilet for a pet is, of course, his personal preferences.
