Recently, it has become fashionable to have among pets not cats or dogs, but exotic animals, in particular snakes. Sometimes the reasons for this choice lie really in fashion trends, but sometimes people who like watching the mesmerizing movements of these reptiles become the owners of snakes.
Instructions
Step 1
Before you start a snake in an apartment, take care of the equipment of its future habitat. The animal must have its own corner - a terrarium, which is a container made of glass or plastic. Pour sand or special soil, which can be purchased at a pet store, at the bottom of the terrarium, plant plants, put stones, branches.
Step 2
Do not forget that a snake is a cold-blooded animal, which means that its body temperature is closely related to environmental conditions. The most comfortable temperature for reptiles is 27-33 degrees. Equip the terrarium with an ultraviolet lamp to prevent disease and maintain normal life. Also, set aside a place under the body of water. Please note that for some species of snakes it is necessary to maintain a certain level of humidity. Place a heating source in the terrarium, preferably on one of the branches, so that the animal can sit comfortably.
Step 3
Be sure to keep your terrarium hygienic at all times, remember to change your drinking water every day and the bathing water immediately after excrement appears. Change the soil periodically, and disinfect stones and branches.
Step 4
Remember that snakes are predators, which means that you need to feed them with live mice, rats, frogs, fish. Therefore, before introducing a snake, consider whether you can provide such food. Adults can go without food for a long time - up to several months. Snakes do not need food during molting. Therefore, feed your pet no more than once a week. Do not forget to add vitamin and mineral supplements or crushed eggshells to the snake's feed.
Step 5
If you want to get offspring, then have two individuals of different sexes. Some snakes are viviparous and carry babies inside the body, while others lay eggs and warm them until the offspring hatch.
Step 6
Remember that snakes can get sick. This manifests itself in a change in their behavior and appearance. But don't panic. Before molting, the animal can also change, it becomes lethargic, the skin grows dull, dries up. But after a while you will be able to see your pet in a new skin.
