When buying a small eared rabbit home for an apartment, it is necessary to think over the place of its keeping in advance so that the "temporary" box does not become its permanent habitat. After all, a rabbit is a creature that deserves its own small and cozy home.
It is necessary
Spacious cage, bedding sawdust, fresh hay nursery, water cup, rabbit toilet
Instructions
Step 1
Please note that rabbits are not adapted to live on a slatted floor, since, unlike cats and dogs, they do not have pads on their paws. Therefore, it is worth choosing a cage with a flat floor or simply putting a couple of boards on the slatted floor of the cage to rest the animal. Otherwise, your pet will spend most of the time in the litter box, simply because it is more comfortable for him to sit there.
Step 2
Choose a large cage for the rabbit: the size of the cage should be at least 4 times the size of the animal. This is the case if the rabbit is allowed to run out of it. If he lives in it constantly, then an even more spacious cage will be preferable. You can purchase a multi-level cage for your pet - he will have where to jump and stretch. It should be noted that rabbits grow very quickly, so you can immediately buy a cage about 100 cm in size (this does not apply to dwarf breeds, although they will also be happy with spacious housing).
Step 3
Gradually accustom your pet to the new spacious cage, if he previously lived in a smaller cage. You can put a small cage inside a large one and thus, without injuring the rabbit, accustom him to a new place of residence.
Step 4
Place the cage at knee level on the stand. Make sure that the radiators and the window with its falling direct sunlight are away from the animal - rabbits are very sensitive to high temperatures, but they tolerate low (minus) temperatures with ease. Drafts and dampness in the room are the enemies of this animal, as they are dangerous to its health.
Step 5
Place a rodent drinker, feeder, fresh hay nursery, and a pet's rest and sleep house in the cage. If a special mineral stone for rodents is suspended (you can buy it at a pet store), this will create additional convenience for the eared pet.
Step 6
Put toys for the rabbit in the cage: cardboard boxes (animals love to climb into them and gnaw them), branches from an apple tree (but not cherry, apricot and peach, as they are poisonous to rabbits), special toys from the range of pet stores, pieces of fabric.
Step 7
Clean your rabbit's cage daily. When he learns to walk in the litter box, he can do the cleaning less often. Every day you need to change old food with water for fresh ones. Disinfect with a solution of potassium permanganate monthly.
