Guinea pigs are cute and calm animals. In terms of content, they are not very capricious, but they need their own house and a piece of their own territory. Like many other rodents, guinea pigs need to move a lot, which means that the cage should be spacious enough. There must be a shelter in the cage where the animal can hide.
It is necessary
- Wooden box
- Metal grid
- Planks for the house
- Reiki
- Door hinge
- Hook and loop or latch
- Carpentry tools
- Nails
- Carpentry glue
Instructions
Step 1
Make a wooden box. If you can get a large enough packing box. You can take it too. The main thing is to pay attention to the dimensions, and also that the bottom and walls do not have cracks. If you have only one guinea pig, take a box with a bottom area of 60x40 cm and a wall height of 40-45 cm. Taking a ready-made box, cut out “windows” in three side walls and the ceiling - holes are almost the size of the entire wall, you must leave 15 cm below and 3-4 cm from the sides and ceiling. From a sufficiently high box, you can make a cage without a roof at all. The pigs will feel great there. A wide strip on the bottom needs to be done because guinea pigs do not like drafts.
Step 2
Make a door in one of the walls. Cut 4 pieces from the rail along the inner perimeter of the side wall and fasten them together. This can be done by cutting the corners at a 45 ° angle and gluing the cuts with wood glue.
Step 3
Cut off pieces of mesh. They should be approximately equal to the corresponding walls of the box - maybe a little less, but such that they completely cover the "windows" and still have a few centimeters left for fastening on each side. Nail the mesh onto all the walls of the future cage, ceiling and door. You can additionally reinforce them with slats from the inside.
Step 4
Place the door on the door hinge. Nail a hook to it with small carnations, and a loop on the wall of the cage. If you are making a cage without a roof, then you do not really need a door; you can also change food, water and bedding through the roof. In principle, the cage is ready, now you need to think about its equipment.
Step 5
First of all, you need a pallet. It should be high enough. The pallet can be picked up at the pet store, but if you are lucky enough to find a large photographic ditch, that will be fine too. You can make a pallet out of wood, but it is more difficult to wash it. The pallet must pass freely through the door.
Step 6
The house can be made from a smaller box. No special tweaks are required for this, it is enough to cut an entrance in one of the edges. Put fresh hay in the house. It also needs to be changed regularly. There must be a feeder and a drinking bowl in the cage. A mechanical drinker is preferable, which is suspended from the net. You can also make a sennik.
Step 7
All other elements of your pet's home are at your discretion. There can be toys, ladders, labyrinths in the cage. Guinea pigs don't need a wheel. They do not particularly like him, and they have their reasons for this - a weak spine. So the wheel may even be harmful to them. Ladders should also not be high.
