It is believed that the main indicator of a dog's well-being is the animal's nose. When a dog pokes your hand with a cold, wet nose, there is no cause for concern, but if the organ of smell is dry and warm, you should start to worry. In fact, this is not entirely true.
Dry nose is normal
In some cases, the dog may have a dry and warm nose without any infections that hit it. For example, a newly woken animal's nose is always dry, and this does not mean any pathology. After 15-20 minutes of wakefulness, everything returns to normal. Also, a dry nose can be in pregnant and lactating bitches.
In situations where the animal is nervous, the nose may dry out and be warm to the touch. In this situation, you do not need to take the dog to the veterinarian. It is enough to remove the source of stress and spend some time with the dog, waiting for it to calm down, caress the animal, and give it a treat.
If your pet spends a lot of time outdoors in the summer, his nose may simply burn. Don't panic, but be careful next time and spread a little sunscreen on it. A similar situation can occur in severe frosts. Like the skin of the hands of people who do not wear gloves, the skin of a dog's nose can dry out and begin to crack.
What disease is a dry nose?
The most common cause of dry nose in dogs is allergies. Often it can come from regular contact with plastic. If your pet's bowls are made of this material, replace them with glass, metal, or ceramic. However, as in the case of a person, anything can act as an allergen, including any food product, pollen or dust.
If you have a cold, your dog's nose may also be dry. In addition, there will be other symptoms: runny nose, sneezing, coughing, hoarse barking. Observe your pet's behavior. A sick dog becomes lethargic, does not want to play with the owner or go outside, may refuse to eat and hide in a secluded place. To make sure that your assumption is correct, the animal needs to measure the temperature, and if it turns out to be above 39 degrees, contact your veterinarian.
A dry, warm nose in a dog can also signal injury. In this case, you may also find swelling, scabs, ulcers, swelling. In this situation, it is also better to take the animal to a veterinary clinic to avoid infection.
Dogs have an autoimmune disease called pemphigus, in which their sense of smell becomes dry and warm. After that, blisters appear on his skin, which burst and form a crust that prevents the animal from breathing. The pet must be shown to a specialist who will advise on the treatment.
