Pet health largely depends on the care and concern of the owners. Dogs, like people, sometimes get sick, they have constipation, poisoning, indigestion. If it is impossible or impossible to give the dog a laxative (for example, the dog is exhausted or has contraindications to taking medication), only a cleansing enema remains.
Instructions
Step 1
In the case of a nervous and disobedient dog, you will need help. It must be someone the dog knows and trusts. The dog may need to be secured and muzzled.
Step 2
If the dog is calm and obedient, then setting an enema will not take a lot of effort, although it is still better if they help you. Put a small dog or puppy in a basin, make a large one get into the bath - this will save you from serious cleaning. It's great if the conditions and condition of the pet allow you to carry out the procedure on the street, for example, in the country. It is better if the dog lies on its side. Fill a syringe (for a large dog - in an Esmarch mug) warm (25-30 ° C) boiled water or a medicinal solution recommended by a veterinarian. The amount of water will depend on the size of your dog. Lubricate the tip with petroleum jelly or oil and slowly insert into the rectum. Gently squeeze out the contents of the pear and remove the tip, then immediately press the dog's tail against the anus for a while. After the desired effect is achieved, give the dog a treat.
Step 3
If you have a small dog (eg Toy Terrier, Pomeranian) or a puppy, you can use a syringe without a needle instead of a rubber bulb. Do not forget to boil the Esmarch pear or mug tip, and if you have a syringe, it must be new. When you fill the syringe with liquid, lightly squeeze it, releasing the air. As a medicinal solution, a diluted chamomile decoction or a weak solution of baking soda (a teaspoon in a glass of water) is usually prescribed. For severe constipation, veterinarians sometimes recommend petroleum jelly.
Step 4
Do not forget that a dog's illness requires a veterinarian consultation. For some diseases (intestinal and gastric bleeding, inflammation in the intestines) enemas are strictly contraindicated.
