Advantages of a decorative rabbit
The decorative rabbit is small, takes up little space, and is easy to care for. At the same time, it is a very intelligent animal, loving communication and with interest in training. He can respond to the nickname, remembers some commands, willingly masters the way to the tray and is even able to perform simple circus tricks. Thanks to these qualities, urban dwellers increasingly prefer rabbits to other pets. In addition, the rabbit does not need daily walks. Where to buy it
It is not worth buying a decorative rabbit from the market. Instead of a purebred dwarf animal, they can sell you, for example, a meat breed rabbit. This, of course, is also an affectionate and sociable animal, but much less mobile, and much larger in size. But now in Russia there are quite a few nurseries where they are engaged in dwarf and decorative breeds. It is best to go there.
Sometimes you can buy a good rabbit from a private owner dealing with a certain breed. But it is better to do this through friends who have already bought rabbits from him. In the nursery, among other things, you will be issued a veterinary certificate, which indicates, among other things, the data on vaccinations and the pedigree for the rabbit. If you do not need documents, you can buy a rabbit at a pet store. But buying in the store is risky, because there are cases of sale of rabbits of larger breeds instead of dwarf rabbits. Worst of all, pet stores do not pay enough attention to veterinary documents, so when choosing an animal, you will have to rely solely on your own eyes and intuition.
When to buy
Dwarf rabbits start selling when they are 3 months old. At this time, the rabbit already has pronounced signs of the breed. Decorative rabbits have small ears, a large head and a sturdy body. At three months, the sex of the animal can already be discerned. Up to this point, gender is distinguished mainly by behavior. Males, even at such a young age, usually mark territory. Females try to make themselves a cozy nest.
What to look at
If you are buying a rabbit from a breeder, ask for a pedigree and a certificate from your veterinarian. Before you go to the nursery, it is useful to find out what features this breed differs in. Pay attention to the color. When you arrive to shop, observe the animals. The bunny should be agile and cheerful. Wait for the little ones to start eating and choose the one with the best appetite. Examine your skin, eyes, and ears. The skin and ears should be clean, the eyes clear. The smooth and shiny coat should match the color of the breed. Do not take a bunny that sneezes, coughs, looks lethargic, has irritations on the skin. It may turn out that instead of joy, you bring serious problems into the house.
