Not everyone chooses familiar cats and dogs as pets. More exotic favorites are also popular. The land turtle is an interesting and unpretentious animal. If you provide her with proper care, she will delight you for a long time.
It is necessary
- - an aquarium;
- - soil;
- - lamp;
- - a house;
- - bowls.
Instructions
Step 1
As a home for a land turtle, an aquarium made of natural or organic glass is perfect. Ideally, the side of the wall should be five times the length of your pet's body. If the turtle is still small, find out to what size the representatives of this species grow so that you do not have to buy another not cheap aquarium over time. Check the tightness of the structure and, if necessary, treat the joints with glass glue, construction mastic or liquid nails.
Step 2
Place soil at the bottom of the terrarium. Its composition depends on the characteristics of the species of animal living with you. Usually they use sand, sawdust, stones, hay, wood chips. Different types of soil can be combined with each other. Some species of turtles (for example, the popular Central Asian tortoise) like to dig holes. The layer of soil must be sufficient for the animal to be able to indulge in its favorite pastime.
Step 3
Turtles are heat-loving animals, so it is necessary to maintain a comfortable temperature in the terrarium. The easiest way to do this is with an incandescent lamp. More advanced turtle lovers use infrared or ceramic heaters in their terrariums, as well as ultraviolet lamps, which not only warm the terrarium, but also provide the turtles with better absorption of calcium.
Step 4
In the terrarium, the turtle should make a shelter where, if necessary, it can hide. To do this, you can use half of an earthen flower pot or buy a ready-made house at a pet store. Turtle hideouts are often made from rodent houses. The building should be installed opposite the lamp.
Step 5
Your pet will definitely need utensils for food and water. It is better to install it near the lamp. Remember to make sure your turtle is getting the amount of liquid and food it needs.
