Budgerigars have long become human friends. They are easy to tame and participate in the daily life of people. Breeders should be aware of the dangers of these friendly little birds.
Accidents
If you let your parrot fly, be sure to close all the vents in the room. Birds love to spend time near windows. If the bird enters the street, it is unlikely to ever return.
Due to its size, the bird runs the risk of being accidentally crushed. Look carefully under your feet, parrots love to walk on the carpet. Never leave a bird flying in a dark room.
If you have other pets, you shouldn't introduce them to the bird. Make sure that cats and dogs do not enter the room where the parrot is moving. You can sincerely believe in the friendliness of your four-legged, but their instincts are still stronger.
Do not expose poultry to too high or too low temperatures. In the summer, close the curtains in the room, provide an influx of fresh air. In winter, do not leave your parrot in unheated, ventilated areas.
Food poisoning
Remove everything from the parrot's reach that it can poison. Budgerigars are curious and love to taste their surroundings. Any chemicals, electrical wires, certain types of houseplants should be excluded.
Many breeders, when communicating with a budgerigar, let it close to their face. However, it is best not to do this. Some bacteria that cause disease in humans are also harmful to birds.
Do not line the cage tray with newspaper. Change the water in the drinker regularly, do not allow the formation of mucus in it. If you suspect poisoning, add activated charcoal to your parrot's food.
It is best to keep poultry out of the kitchen, especially when cooking. An open fire, boiling water - all this can easily lead to tragedy. To avoid this, allocate one specific room for walking your pet.
Diseases
Budgerigars can die from various diseases. Parasitic diseases are widespread and can indirectly lead to death. Of the viral diseases, psittacosis is common.
A serious illness makes itself felt during the day. The bird is lethargic, sleepy, stops talking. Feathers are disheveled, breathing is labored.
Wash thoroughly all fresh food you feed your pet. Poultry can get parasites from unwashed food. To exclude this possibility, it is worth periodically taking the bird's feces for analysis to the veterinarian.
During the first time the bird is in the apartment, limit it from stress. Until the parrot has adapted, it can become very frightened of many things. Stress can also lead to death.
