One of the favorite pets - budgerigars - are long-lived. With good care, a parrot can live for about 15 years. It is desirable to acquire a young parrot, as more trainable. The difficulty is that it is almost impossible to determine the exact age of a parrot, it is only possible to determine whether it is a young bird, or already an adult, sexually mature.

Instructions
Step 1
Look at the parrot wax. In an adult male budgerigar, the wax is a deep blue, in a female it is brown. In young birds, the wax is much paler, purple in males and bluish in females.
Step 2
Pay attention to the bird's beak. In old budgies it is yellow or greenish, in young ones it is black. As they grow older, the black spot usually diminishes.
Step 3
Take a closer look at the tails of the parrots. In young animals, they are short, in adults, they are much longer. Young parrots grow very quickly and soon catch up with their parents in body size, but the feathers reach normal length with a slight delay, so that in the first month and a half, their length also serves as a sign of chick age.
Step 4
Judge by the color of the plumage. In youngsters, the feather color is duller, waviness on the head appears almost from the wax itself and there is no light yellow or white mask (in the corresponding color forms). A bird older than 4 - 6 months changes its chick plumage and becomes brighter, more contrasting, a mask appears, and the waviness on the head begins already higher, from the edge of the mask.
Step 5
Look into the eyes. In an adult parrot, the pupil is surrounded by a white ring, and there is often no plumage around the eyes. The eyes of a young budgie are completely black, the pupil merges with the iris, and therefore the eyes seem larger than in reality.
