Puppies of any breeds begin to be given to new owners at the age of two months. At this time, they all look almost the same, especially if they belong to closely related breeds or are mestizo, that is, simply put, half-breeds. It is difficult for a layman who wants to have a dachshund in the house to determine how thoroughly a puppy is and, if so, how much it meets the standard. To make the right choice, you need to know what dachshund puppies look like, even if they are still very young.
Instructions
Step 1
Of course, when you have chosen this wonderful breed, you already have an idea of how different types of dachshunds look and are familiar with the main provisions of the standard (FCI and RKF). It is clear that even if you are not ready to shell out a tidy sum for an elite puppy and want to buy it cheaper, you should not buy it hand-held in the transition or in the market. Look through the ads and contact the club or breeders. This is a guarantee that you will be offered a puppy of this particular breed, albeit with slight deviations from the standard, but with all the features of the exterior and character of the dachshund.
Step 2
At the breeder or in the club, the puppies will be shown to you in the presence of the mother, so you can easily make the first impression of them by her conformation, behavior and character. Take a closer look at the puppies - pedigree should have a brand on the right one already or on the belly. "Taksiata" should be proportionally folded, well-fed, but not fat, tightly knit. The eyes are clear, the direction of gaze in a two-month-old dachshund puppy can already be easily traced. Eye color in dachshunds - brown, blue or gray is considered a marriage.
Step 3
A thoroughbred dachshund puppy should have a scissor bite, gums and tongue pink. Dewclaws are considered a marriage, as are paws that are too long or too short. The ears have a rounded shape, there should not be many folds on them. Pay attention to the paws, they should not be too thin, and the puppy itself should already look squat. At the same time, his back should be flat - without humps and deflections. A straight tail should continue the natural line of the back, without kinks or curves.
Step 4
The skin should be clean, without signs of skin diseases and without fleas, with a color characteristic of this breed, although it is finally formed only by the year. Puppies are usually darker than adult dogs, but their nose and nails should be black from birth. With age, they do not change color, although the owner can assure you that the puppy's light claws and yellow nose will darken over time. In brown dachshunds, the nose and nails may also be brown. For black and tan dachshunds, the brighter the contrast between tan and base coat, the better, as the color becomes less intense over time. Dachshunds should not have white marks or spots, "shirt fronts" or "socks". The signs of "mestizo" include the absence of tan in case of black color, as well as spotted "boar" color for smooth-haired dachshunds.
