Puppy spontaneity and sociability touches everyone. How nice it is when the dog jumps around happily, welcoming the household! However, the baby grows quickly and the puppy habits in an adult dog begin to irritate both the owners and those around them. Dirty paws, torn things, frightened children - all this can turn into a big problem. How to be? Timely and systematically wean the puppy from the habit of jumping on and around others.
Instructions
Step 1
The puppy jumps out of an excess of joy and desire to touch a person. Often the owner himself encourages this bad habit, specially leaning towards the baby and rejoicing when he licks his face. The dog takes this joy for approval, so the habit is reinforced.
Step 2
To rid the dog of the bad habit, and yourself from the spoiled clothes, rigidly wean the puppy from this manner of greeting. It is best to teach him the "sit" command as early as possible. As soon as the puppy rushes to you, strictly tell him "Sit"! As soon as the dog obeys, reward him with a treat.
Step 3
If the puppy jumps to greet the owner who has entered the scrap, try not to provoke him. Do not call or pet the dog when entering the apartment. Ignore him, give the puppy time to calm down. Then you can call the dog and talk to it. Your pet should understand that loud greetings are not encouraged, but the owner is not at all opposed to playing with him.
Step 4
Do not yell at or hit your puppy. Raising a frightened dog is not your goal. It is not necessary to scold the dog verbatim, repeating his nickname. Do not overestimate the intelligence of your pet - he simply will not understand long monologues. But short intelligible commands, intonation and facial expression "read" very quickly.
Step 5
Some dogs may benefit from gentle physical stimulation. When the puppy jumps on you, grab his front paws firmly and place them on the floor. In a stern voice, tell the dog "Fu". If the dog obeyed, treat him to a treat. If he continues to bounce around, repeat the technique.
Step 6
However, there are animals that are not pacified by touch and even harsh influence, but, on the contrary, provokes. They start jumping even more violently, reinforcing their actions by barking. Such puppies need to be brought up more rigidly. Do not let them lick their face, praise and talk to the dog only when they are calm. Ignore jumping and barking. The puppy will quickly understand that by jumping and noise he will not achieve either encouragement or entertainment and will be forced to behave more restrained.
Step 7
If your puppy is jumping on strangers, don't try to joke the situation. Remember that passers-by can be afraid of dogs, even the smallest ones. Therefore, at the initial stage of training, when you are not yet sure that the pet has mastered the commands, release it from the leash only in deserted places or on a special dog area.
Step 8
If your puppy does not obey commands, see a professional dog handler. You will be offered to take a general training course with your pet. It will take some time and effort, but in the end you will end up with an obedient and perfectly mannered dog.
