After some operations or sterilization, it is necessary to put on special postoperative blankets on cats, which protect the seams from external influences and mainly from the rough cat's tongue. Cats often begin to lick wounds and gnaw at the stitches that diverge from this. Postoperative blankets are sold at veterinary stores and pharmacies.
Instructions
Step 1
There is the classic model of the postoperative blanket for cats with ties, there are also new models with Velcro. Velcro blankets are more expensive, but they make it quicker and easier to put them on the cat. Doctors put on the blanket immediately after the operation, but at home you will have to process the seams, so you need to learn how to take off and put on the blanket. Removing the blanket is not difficult - untie all the knots and unfold it. But after processing the seams, it is much more difficult to fix the blanket on the cat.
Step 2
A classic blanket is a piece of fabric with cutouts for the legs and fourteen strings or ribbons. Three pairs of straps are in the middle, two are behind the cutouts for the forelegs, and two are in a row perpendicular to the middle. Place the blanket on the cat's belly so that the cutouts for the front paws are near the front paws of the cat. Start sequentially tying the ribbons in pairs, starting from the head: the first two pairs of ribbons around the head, the next two pairs criss-cross around the front legs, the two middle pairs parallel on the back, and the last two pairs around the hind legs also criss-cross. Make sure that the blanket does not cover the lower abdomen so that the cat can go to the toilet. If the blanket covers that part and gets in the way of the cat, chances are you put it backwards. If the cat actively resists putting on the blanket, ask someone to hold her gently so that she cannot interfere with you.
Step 3
Velcro blankets are easier and faster to put on. Such blankets have long-pile adhesive tapes that are securely attached even if the animal's hair gets into them. Velcro is conveniently located and allows you to adjust the size of the blanket. They also have an elastic band that does not hinder the movement of cats. The shape of the blanket is the same as that of the classic one, but the ribbons are wider and there are fewer of them. Pass the front paws into special cutouts, fasten the blanket with tape around the neck. Join the blanket on the back by adjusting the length. Thread the ponytail into the loop, connect another tape on the back.
Step 4
At first, the cat is uncomfortable in a blanket, she begins to walk sideways or backwards. If you have the opportunity, you can take off the blanket for fifteen minutes a day, but be careful that the cat does not lick the seam or gnaw at the threads.
