Many parrot owners dream of their pet talking, striking everyone with apt words and unexpected phrases. Any parrot can be taught to speak, even a lovebird. However, it will take a lot of effort.
Instructions
Step 1
As much as possible, a lovebird parrot can learn to speak 10-12 words, on average, with proper training, it can pronounce 2-4 words. Lovebirds are distinguished from other species by a rather pleasant and sonorous voice.
Step 2
Do the training every day, preferably at the same time, for example, in the morning before serving food. One lesson should be 10-15 minutes long. Additionally, you can practice in the evening, before serving a treat. Parrots are more receptive to children's and female voices, keep this in mind.
Step 3
There are 3 ways to teach a parrot to speak: training is conducted by the owner himself, training takes place using the recording of human speech and training using the method of rivalry. The first way of learning will require a significant amount of time from you. It takes much more effort to teach lovebirds to speak than teaching other parrot species. Start with one word, for example, with the name of the pet, pronounce it clearly in those moments when the bird is in a good mood. Speak the word or phrase slowly, always with the same intonation. The first words for training a parrot should consist of the letters "a", "o", "k", "p", "p", "t".
Step 4
For the second method of teaching, record your speech on tape or record it using a computer. Speak familiar words or sounds clearly. The recording should be repeated within 10-15 minutes. A tape or computer recording of a human voice will save you time, but keep in mind that if a parrot learns to speak the recorded phrases and words, it will only pronounce them when people are absent. To prevent this from happening, you will have to attend class.
Step 5
The method of rivalry consists in the desire of the parrot to impress with his ability to speak to another, non-speaking individual, which is his own reflection in the mirror. Conduct the activity as usual, after it is over, hang a small mirror in the cage so that the parrot can see itself. Remove the mirror for the duration of the class. Over time, the pet will want to attract the attention of its reflection in the mirror, which it takes for another parrot.
