Great Danes are ideal family pets. They are gentle and affectionate, loyal and sociable. They like to spend a lot of time at home with their family.
There are, of course, difficulties in raising these dogs. First, they are more suitable for people who already have experience with dogs. Sometimes Great Danes can be quite wayward and independent. In addition, Great Dane is not suitable as a companion for those people who are absent from home for a long time - the dog constantly needs company.
In general, the Great Dane is suitable as a guard dog. He barks quite a bit, but he will surely bark at strangers, in addition, strangers are frightened by the very size and appearance of the dog.
Care
In terms of leaving, the Great Dane is not too whimsical. Dogs almost do not shed, for grooming the coat it is enough to clean up the coat with a rubberized brush from time to time. Bathing dogs is not recommended due to the large size and characteristics of the coat; it is better to use dry shampoo.
It is also recommended not to short-cut the claws from time to time.
Dogs need to brush their teeth regularly and have their ears, nose, paws, and eyes examined.
Upbringing
Another feature of the Great Dane that you need to be careful with is that the dog is simply not aware of its enormous size, so it can easily knock a person down, joyfully jumping to greet. On a walk, dogs can get very dirty, and they also have increased salivation.
Like any dog, the Great Dane must be educated from early childhood. Due to the peculiarities of his character, in no case should you shout at the dog and apply other severe punishments to it.
It is worth remembering that Great Danes are affectionate and sensitive dogs, so they adopt the emotions of the owner, this must also be taken into account when raising.
Dogs are very active outdoors, but this activity must be limited until the age of two in order to prevent the development of bone and joint diseases.
Dogs like to spend several hours outside, excluding cold, damp weather.
