Clothing for dogs is not a luxury, as it might seem at first glance. Pets are quite gentle creatures, so a warm blanket or jacket will allow your pet to enjoy the walk and not freeze. The waterproof jumpsuit will allow the dog not to get its coat dirty, even when there is slush outside. But just like for humans, dog clothes have their own sizes.
Instructions
Step 1
To correctly determine the size of the clothes your pet will wear, you need to take the correct measurements. It depends on how comfortable the dog will feel and whether it will like to flaunt it in those outfits that you get at the pet store. You need to determine three parameters of your dog by measuring his neck circumference, chest and back length.
Step 2
Place your pet level. Using a flexible measuring tape (centimeter) or tape measure, measure the length of your back from the withers to the base of the tail along the spine. In a dog that is calm and motionless, the withers are the highest place on the back, it is located next to the neck, between the shoulder bones.
Step 3
Measure your chest circumference by passing the measuring tape around the dog's body, just behind the front legs. In almost all dog breeds, this is the widest part of the chest. To prevent the clothes from squeezing the dog's body, add another 2-3 cm to this size for a free fit.
Step 4
Measure the circumference of the neck at the widest part of it - a loosely buttoned collar is located just in this place. The girth of the neck is almost equal to the length of the collar.
Step 5
Since there is no standardized size chart for dogs and each manufacturer determines them himself, you need to correlate the obtained sizes of your dog with the size chart of a particular manufacturer.
Step 6
If your dog's measurements are between the sizes shown in the chart, choose the slightly larger size. If your dog's breed is tight, buy one size larger clothing. For thin-boned, lean dogs, you can purchase a suit one size smaller.
