Step 1
When buying a lemur, keep in mind that males are calmer than females. Make sure the animal has been raised in captivity. Sometimes wild lemurs are caught in the jungles of Madagascar and smuggled. Ask about the primate breed, find out what it will become when it grows up.

Buy a small monkey cage (the rods should not be metal), place several tree branches, ropes, and rungs in it so that the lemur can climb them. Make him a bed - find a box that fits the size, put cotton wool or dry hay inside. Place the cage in a warm, draft-free corner. Lemurs are sensitive to cold and often get colds because they are tropical animals. But in a warm apartment they will be comfortable. Keep the cage clean - you need to clean it often, wipe the floor and add sawdust. It is convenient to have a removable tray in the cage, so it is easier to wash it. It is advisable to install ultraviolet lamps, so the animal will be more active.
Step 3
Place several feeders and a drinker made of glass, porcelain, or other material other than metal in the cage. Lemurs are nocturnal and should be fed at night. But if you wish, you can teach him to eat during the day. Do not force the animal to eat, wait until he wants to. His diet should include meat, bread, milk, kefir, boiled rice, vegetables and fruits. Also feed the lemur bird eggs. These primates often catch and eat insects. Make sure that the menu is balanced: it contains 35% fermented milk products, 35% plant foods and 35% insects. Do not give them table treats, as most lemurs are allergic.
Step 4
Domestic lemurs are quite calm and non-conflicting. They can often be released from the cage - they, as a rule, do not break or spoil anything. These are sociable animals, they quickly get used to the owner and begin to get bored if people are not in the apartment for a long time. But if you have a same-sex pair of primates, they will communicate with each other.
Step 5
Lemurs are used to going to the toilet wherever they want. It is unlikely that it will be possible to retrain them, the animal will soon get angry, but will not stop acting in its own way. Among other disadvantages of the primate are good vocal abilities, which it can demonstrate for a long time and loudly. Some breeds are silent, others have a wide range of voices and love of concerts.
