Deer are one of the most graceful mammals. There are many types of these animals, which may well differ in their appearance and size. Among some of the most unique species of deer, the Pudu deer can be distinguished.
Hearing the word "deer", a person usually represents a large noble animal, but among the representatives of the reindeer there is a "baby" - Pudu. Its height at the withers is up to 40 cm, and in length up to 93 cm. The weight of the baby is from 7 to 10 kg.
The main place of residence is the coastal region of southern Chile, although earlier the habitat was much wider. The animal is shy and prefers to hide in forests or mountains at an altitude of up to 3000 meters.
There are two types - southern and northern. The first is slightly larger and prefers a lower habitat height.
Pudu males have small non-branching horns that fall off in June. The tail of a deer is short, the coat is coarse in various brown shades.
Puda is hunted by many predators - cougars, foxes, owls. Deer prefer to behave quietly and carefully, in case of danger they abruptly run away in zigzags.
They live from 8 to 10 years, in captivity for 5 years more, although they often die from various diseases. The health of Pudu deer is not stable.
Pudu's diet consists of various herbs, leaves, tree bark and buds, they pick up fallen fruits and eat ferns.
The little deer is about 7 months pregnant. The female gives birth to one cub, rarely two, 15 cm in size. They grow very quickly and by 3 months reach the size of an adult Pudu, at 6 months the females are ready for breeding, the males are two months later.
