Step 1
Select and purchase special scratching posts. They are of several types: standing post-scratching posts; scratching posts hanging on the wall; scratching posts-rugs. Often the scratching post is part of the "cat complex", which also includes a house and several special platforms. It is recommended to purchase at least 2-3 scratching posts.
Step 2
Place scratching posts on the walls, in those places of the apartment that your cat has chosen. Remember that it is easier to equip a place for a cat that she already loves than trying to train her to sharpen her claws in a place that you personally like. Do not forget to also place the scratching post near the place where the cat sleeps - very often animals begin to sharpen their claws immediately after sleeping. Fasten the scratching post firmly. If she falls and frightens the animal, then the cat, most likely, will never use "this scary thing." In addition, cats are physiologically incapable of sharpening their claws on wobbly objects.
Step 3
Show your cat what is required of her. Take your pet in your arms and take it to a new purchase. At the same time, do not drag her by the scruff or raise her voice to her - this can lead to a persistent negative association with this subject. Place the cat's front paws on the surface of the scratching post. Press lightly on the paw pads to release the claws. This must be done very carefully so as not to hurt the animal. Hook the cat with the claws on the surface of the scratching post. Such training is recommended to be carried out regularly.
Step 4
Help your cat get used to the scratching post. To do this, you can spray a scratching post with "catnip", which is sold in any pet store.
Step 5
Use the carrot and stick method. Do not skimp on affection and praise if you notice that the cat is sharpening its claws in the "right" place. If you find a pet at the crime scene - show her your negative attitude to what is happening - say loudly "No!" You can also use a spray bottle with water as a punishment. Cats do not like very much when water gets on their face.

Trim your cat's nails periodically. This procedure must be carried out very carefully so as not to damage living tissue.
