Step 1
Rabbits need attention 24 hours a day, especially during and after pregnancy. They are ready for breeding by about 8 months. But the partner is "required" much earlier, by 4 months, so in the early stages it is better to give the rabbit a soft toy the size of himself. During puberty, the rabbit is aggressive, "marks" the territory, digs, tries to build a nest, scatters everything around.
The female may have a false pregnancy (regardless of whether she has had sexual intercourse or not). She begins to haul hay for the nest and to tear the wool out of herself. Stop any attempt by the female to build a nest. Give her more opportunities to walk and keep her busy with games.
Step 2
A real pregnancy lasts about 30 days (plus or minus 2-3 days). Pay attention to the rabbit's diet, but do not overfeed either. Do not deprive it of calcium. Place the mother-to-be in a larger cage and keep it away from the male. In no case do not allow strangers to take the pregnant rabbit in their arms. You can understand how many babies she is expecting through palpation. But do not touch the female if you have never done so before. You can very easily harm both her and the unborn rabbits.
A week before giving birth, try not to let the female go for a walk, put a nest house, disinfect the cage the day before. Be sure to ensure that a specialist from the veterinary clinic is present during the birth. If everything goes well, then a couple, three or five decorative rabbits will be born.
Step 3
Do almost all other actions for raising and feeding babies under the supervision of a specialist. There will be a lot of subtleties: starting with the fact that a mother can die during childbirth, ending with a maternal instinct that has not manifested itself. It is impossible to feed newborn babies without mother's milk. If it did not disappear immediately, but after a few weeks, experienced breeders recommend purchasing artificial milk for puppies or kittens. Feed the babies with a multi-hole pipette. If the rabbit has milk, provide the babies with easy access to the nipples.
Step 4
In case of insufficient female care, rinse the anus of the rabbits with a damp warm cloth and monitor the condition of their eyes, teeth, claws and general development. If this is not urgently needed, do not wean the cubs from the female until they are at least one and a half months old. Do not forget that babies also need to be vaccinated.
