If you want your pug to delight you with a healthy appearance and vigor for many years, take care of its proper nutrition from puppyhood. A balanced diet for dogs of miniature breeds, which include pugs, prevents the development of diseases associated with a lack of nutrients in the animal's body, avoids the development of infections and other health problems of the dog.
Instructions
Step 1
When you bring your little pug puppy into the house, feed him the same food that he received from the previous owners for the first ten days. Usually, puppies are handed out around 8-9 weeks of age. If the pug has received ready-made commercial food, continue to feed it, strictly following the recommendations written on the package. Introduce the new feed gradually, adding in portions (start with 1/5). Change completely to the new diet after five to seven days. At this age, the puppy should receive food at least 5 times a day at regular intervals. From the age of three months, transfer the pug to four meals a day.
Step 2
Do not offer your puppy food from your table if you plan to feed him homemade food. Cook him separately. The diet of a small pug should look something like this: the first feeding is porridge in meat broth, with the addition of vegetables and finely chopped boiled meat; the second is milk porridge; the third is raw meat; the fourth is cottage cheese or kefir. Add half a boiled egg yolk to your pug meal once a week. Make sure that there is always fresh water in the puppy's bowl.
Step 3
Cook porridge for a pug from buckwheat, oatmeal, oatmeal, rice (infrequently, because it contains a lot of carbohydrates). As a rule, puppies prefer crumbly porridge. The meat diet can consist of beef, lamb, horse meat, turkey meat, chicken. Give the puppy meat raw (it contains more vitamins) or boiled, the main thing is that it is not fatty. Cut it into small pieces, at first you can grind it into minced meat. Once a week, replace the meat portion with lean sea fish (always boiled!).
Step 4
Pugs enjoy eating vegetables and fruits. Beginning at 3 months of age, include grated raw carrots, lettuce, cabbage, spinach, and other raw vegetables (except potatoes) in your puppy's daily diet. They can be mixed in small amounts with the meat portion.
Step 5
For the prevention of rickets and the normal growth of the skeleton, add mineral supplements to the puppy's food. These can be purchased at the pet store. If the pug is accustomed to eating ready-made industrial food, then this is not necessary, because such foods usually contain all the minerals necessary for the development of puppies.
Step 6
As the puppy grows up, switch to three meals a day (from 7 to 12 months), and by the age of one year - two meals a day, keeping the daily ration.
Step 7
Pugs are very food-loving and rarely leave food in their bowl, so don't overfeed your puppy. Excessive feeding contributes to the obesity of the dog, negatively affects its health in general.
