The decorative aquarium is a real decoration of the apartment. In the event that it is purchased, an aquarium cover is usually included in the kit. But in many cases - for example, when making an aquarium yourself - you have to design it yourself.

Step 1
An aquarium cover should solve several problems at once. First of all, backlight lamps are installed in it. In addition, cover glasses are often mounted in the lid to prevent water evaporation.
Step 2
First, create a design for the future cover. It can be rectangular or with beveled front and back surfaces. Then choose a material, usually plywood or fiberboard. Cut out the parts of the cover according to the required dimensions. Connect them with slats nailed from the inside with small studs.
Step 3
The lid should fit over the aquarium, covering about three centimeters of glass on top. To prevent it from falling below, nail the limiting strips with small nails along the perimeter. Attach the lamp holders to the top side of the cover, from the inside. One or two fluorescent white lamps (LB) and one incandescent lamp of 25-40 W should be installed, it will improve the light spectrum due to warm yellow rays. The aquarium electrics operate in a high humidity environment, therefore ensure reliable contacts on all circuits. Follow the safety rules - in particular, there should be no bare wires, contacts, lamp bases, etc. anywhere.
Step 4
The top of the lid should be lifted on hinges at the back. Make a cover glass from two halves, right and left. This will make it easier for you to remove them. Cut the front corner of the right cover slip, with sides about 10 cm, with a glass cutter. Glue a small handle to it with silicone glue, it can be a small piece of glass with smooth edges. The hole covered by this triangle will be used to feed the fish.
Step 5
Provide the necessary holes in the cover for the compressor hose, heater wires, etc. In the back of the cover, drill about 10 holes with a diameter of 8-10 mm, they are needed to dissipate the heat generated by the lamps. Cover the inner surface of the lid with foil. On the side surfaces, you can place switches for lighting, aeration, heating. Cover the outside with a decorative wood-like film.
