The dog accessories industry offers products for all four-legged occasions - from boots for walking in the rain to carrying bags for long journeys. Choosing the latter is not so easy: the size of the bag should ideally fit the dimensions of your pet, and the design should not double the purchase price. In such conditions, it is perhaps easier to sew a dog carrier with your own hands.
It is necessary
- - the cloth;
- - cardboard;
- - scissors;
- - threads;
- - a needle;
- - sewing machine.
Instructions
Step 1
Take measurements of your dog. Measure the height of your chest, from the base of your feet to your muzzle. Also determine the length from neck to tail. When constructing a pattern, we will denote the first value by the letter B, the second by D.
Step 2
Build the pattern of the carrier bag on paper. Draw a rectangle. To determine its long side, multiply the value of B by two, D also double and add the resulting numbers. Then add 20 cm to the result. The short side of the rectangle should be equal to the length of the dog from the neck to the tail.
Step 3
Place the rectangle with the long side facing you. Divide the shape in half with the vertical axis. The right and left sides of the rectangle are the sidewalls of the carrier.
Step 4
Build a hole for the dog's head. To do this, from the bottom side of the rectangle along the vertical axis, set aside the distance that was indicated by the letter B. Then, on the upper side of the rectangle, set aside the number of centimeters equal to half of the value B to the right and left of the axis. Draw an oval notch for the head at these three points.
Step 5
The bottom of the bag is a rectangle, the sides of which are equal to D + 10 cm (large side) and B + 5 cm (smaller side).
Step 6
Transfer all patterns to the fabric. For the outside of the carrier, it is best to choose a waterproof material to protect your pet from the rain. The inside must be strong enough so that the dog does not rip it open with its claws. If you want to insulate the bag, make a side piece of foam rubber. The bottom can be reinforced with rigid cardboard.
Step 7
Assemble the parts of the bag into one piece. Sew on the handles that are strong enough - attach them to the wrong side of the side. Sew a zipper on the top of the carrier. Place the lining and the outside of the bag facing each other, and place the foam on top. Sew the perimeter of the carrier, leaving a small hole to turn it out.
Step 8
Turn out the workpiece, sew the hole with a blind seam. Join the sides of the bag and then stitch to the top of the bottom.
