Fox Terrier ears not only play the role of a hearing aid, but also have a decorative function. Their correct shape is one of the main features of the breed and can provide prizes for the pet at the show. However, by themselves, the ears of a fox terrier cannot take the desired shape - the owner of the dog must take care of this.
It is necessary
- - electric shaver;
- - stationery glue;
- - scissors.
Instructions
Step 1
According to the standard, fox terrier ears should be small, set high and close to each other. The upper fold line should rise 2 cm above the level of the forehead. With their front edge, they adjoin the forehead, and the tips are necessarily directed to the outer corners of the eyes and do not reach them by a quarter of their length.
Step 2
Begin gluing the ears at 3 months of age, while the cartilage bones have not yet formed. If the puppy's ears begin to stick out in different directions or he lays them back at the age when he is not yet 3 months old, you can start gluing the ears ahead of schedule.
Step 3
Shave off the hair from the head of the pet between the ear and the eye (the place of gluing) so that the coat is 3-4 mm. This will avoid micro-trauma to the skin.
Step 4
Fold the fox terrier's ear to fit the standard. Then apply the glue to the inside of the ear, smearing only the tip and the edge that will press against the forehead. Apply glue in a mirror-like manner to your forehead. After that, glue the other ear symmetrically.
Step 5
After 3-4 weeks, gently shave off the regrown hair and glue residues at the bonding points. Apply some alcohol on a cotton swab, squeeze out thoroughly and clean the ear from the accumulated wax. Then glue the pet's ears again.
Step 6
This procedure should be repeated every month until the dog is 6-7 months old. It is at this time that their cartilage is finally formed, and the shape of the ears remains unchanged for life. If the ears of the fox terrier are very heavy and large, extend the bonding procedure to 8 months.
Step 7
Feed your pet special nutritional supplements to help strengthen cartilage.
