Charming Yorkshire Terriers are excellent companion dogs. They are distinguished by a cheerful, balanced character, good health and charming appearance. To make your pet grow up just like that, choose the right puppy - many of the qualities of an adult dog are laid in early childhood.

Step 1
When planning to purchase a puppy, contact a canine organization that breeds Yorkshire terriers. You will be advised of suitable breeders who are willing to provide puppies for sale. This is especially important if you are planning to show a future dog or use it for breeding. When deciding to buy a puppy from an ad, be especially careful. If you are offered mini-Yorkies, do not be tempted - this breed does not exist, and normal Yorkie puppies that look too small can be unhealthy.
Step 2
Rate the parents of the puppies. The breeder should provide you with the pedigree of the dogs and, if possible, photographs of their ancestors. Please note that in nurseries animals with certain breed characteristics are raised. For example, some breeders prefer dogs with long and slicker coats, while others breed shorter and fluffier puppies.
Step 3
Decide in advance which puppy you want. Choose larger dogs for breeding - in the future they will give strong and viable offspring. For exhibitions, the color, size and shape of the ears, as well as their correct setting, are very important. Do not buy puppies with pronounced defects - too coarse hair, drooping soft ears and white spots on the skin.
Step 4
If you want to get a pet for your soul, be guided by your own taste. Warn the breeder to help you find the right puppy for you. Please note that pet-class animals are much cheaper.
Step 5
When choosing a puppy, evaluate its appearance. A healthy animal is active, curious, affable and socially inclined. The eyes of a healthy animal shine, the coat shines, and a pleasant, weak puppy smell emanates from it. There should be no bald spots or dandruff on the skin. Lift the ponytail and check for signs of diarrhea underneath. Look into your puppy's ears for dark crusts or discharge.
Step 6
Assess the puppy's character correctly. If you are interested in a lively and vigorous dog, choose the most active of the litter. If you want to acquire an affectionate and obedient pet, prefer a calmer one - it will be easier to train without showing bright leadership qualities.
