In nature, erythrozone can be found in the northern rivers of South America. But this fish came to Russia only in 1957. Erythrozonus belongs to the class of ray-finned fish, the haracin family.
Appearance
In aquarium fish, erythrozonus has an elongated body with a red shiny stripe. The abdomen is whitish, the dorsum is greenish, the color of the scales ranges from light yellow to dark brown. The fins are transparent, the ends are milky white, there is a red stripe on the dorsal fin. The eyes of fish are two-colored: below - blue, above - orange. Erythrozonus lives up to 4 years with good care, grows up to 4.5 cm. Females are larger than males.
Care and maintenance
Erythrozonus is a calm fish, it lives better in a flock. It is better to keep 10-15 individuals in a 45-liter aquarium. Water needs settled, temperature 21-25 ° С, water hardness no more than 15 °. It is recommended to pour dark soil at the bottom, plant bushes of small-leaved plants. Erythrozonus loves thickets. The aquarium needs to be well filtered. Every week you need to change a third of the water to fresh.
This aquarium inhabitant is not particularly picky about food. Cyclops, bloodworms, daphnia, tubule, cortetra - this is what erythrozonus feeds on. Sometimes it is allowed to use ice cream or canned substitutes. Vegetable groundbaits are an addition to the main food.
Reproduction
The optimum acidity of the water in the aquarium during spawning is 6, 5-7, the hardness of the water should vary from 2 to 10. The presence of a large number of plants and the shade of the reservoir is an important condition for the successful hatching of erythrozonus fry.
