Guppies are perhaps the most popular type of aquarium fish. And all due to the fact that these small fish, which have a variety of shapes and colors, are completely unpretentious, in addition, they are very accommodating with other fish. If you decide to have an aquarium in your house, then start by breeding these simple fish.
Instructions
Step 1
Consider the size of your guppy tank. It is generally known that this fish species does not require a huge aquarium at all, because guppies can live excellently and produce offspring even in a three-liter jar. But, unfortunately, the size of the fish directly depends on the volume of the aquarium. And if you want to grow large enough, within the framework of your species, then you will have to forget about a three-liter jar. In addition, be sure to keep in mind that if you want to add other species of fish to the guppy in the future, then the volume of your aquarium should be at least 40 centimeters in length and 50 in height. However, be aware that it is impossible to keep guppies together with aggressive fish - the gorgeous tail of male guppies can turn into rags due to the constant attacks of quarrelsome neighbors.
Step 2
Pay due attention to water quality. According to experienced aquarists, it is determined by three parameters: its purity, acidity and hardness.
Step 3
Be sure to take into account the fact that keeping guppies in a small aquarium will cause it to become polluted quite quickly and, as a result, to the death of fish, since their waste products will contribute to the spread of pathogenic bacteria. For this reason, for keeping more than ten guppies, it is better to use an aquarium with a volume of about 40 liters or more.
Step 4
Choose the right plants for your aquarium, as choosing the right plants is an important factor in keeping the water in your aquarium clean. So, for water purification, you can use the so-called Indian fern, in addition, this plant is best suited for keeping guppies.
Step 5
Equip a bottom filter in your aquarium. This will help you keep your aquarium clean, as this filter will purify the water well, leaving it clear and fresh.
Step 6
Take care to avoid overpopulation of fish in your aquarium. For example - for every 2 guppies you need 3-4 liters of water.
Step 7
Pay attention to the lighting in the aquarium as well. Specialist stores will advise you on the lamps you need.
Step 8
Remember that guppies are viviparous and they reproduce well. Shortly before spawning (the ring of maturity near the anus becomes darker, and the belly of the fish acquires the shape of a rectangle), place the female in a separate aquarium, otherwise the fry will be eaten by congeners. Please note that a purchased purebred female (even when paired with a male) may already be fertilized by another male, and non-purebred fry will be born.
Step 9
You can feed guppies with a variety of foods, since these fish are omnivorous. The fry born into the world can feed almost from the very birth. They need to be fed 3-5 times a day with ciliates, cyclops and brine shrimp nauplii, “live dust”, even a crushed bloodworm or tubifex is also suitable for feeding juveniles. Adult fish are fed 1-2 times a day with scraped lean beef, beef liver, cod meat, macrorus, scrambled eggs, etc. You can even give white biscuit bread, oat flakes. You just need to remember that fish should not overeat, therefore, after 15-20 minutes, when they leave the feeder, you need to remove the remains of food.
