You have made the decision to purchase a dog. We decided on the breed. We decided which gender you will take the puppy. But an important question remained unresolved: how to get a puppy so that you get exactly the dog you dreamed of, and not something else. Unfortunately, now there are a lot of unscrupulous breeders and resellers, who easily pass off mestizos and outright mongrels for purebred dogs. Therefore, the acquisition of a thoroughbred puppy must be taken seriously.
Instructions
Step 1
Visit dog shows in your city. Look at the dogs of your chosen breed. Talk to the owners of these dogs. Most of the dog breeders will be happy to tell you everything that interests you about their dog, about the breed in general, and share information about the breeders of dogs of this breed. Write down any breeder contacts you can get hold of. Visit kennel clubs (there are such clubs in almost every city, but not one at a time). There you will also be given complete information about kennels and private breeders who currently have puppies of the breed you need.
Step 2
Having received all the contacts of the breeders, call them and arrange to see the puppies. Don't buy a puppy from the first breeder. Be sure to look at all the litters offered to you from all breeders.
Step 3
You can, of course, not spend a lot of time and energy on trips to clubs and exhibitions and find a suitable puppy by advertising in the newspaper or on the Internet. But then you need to be extremely careful here. When buying a dog in this way, there is a high probability of getting to dealers. And they, as a rule, can rarely offer good dogs. Therefore, when you look at the puppies that you found on the ad, you should definitely show them to their mom (or dad, if it is a child support puppy).
Step 4
And now you have chosen the breeder from whom you are going to purchase the puppy. Be sure to ask to show you the pedigree of the parents. In order for the puppies to have all the required documents, their mother and father must have an exhibition mark of at least "very good". You have the right to ask to show you the diplomas from the shows that the parents of the puppies attended, especially if the breeder assures you that the parents of the puppies are champions. If the breed of the puppy of your choice requires special training for admission to breeding, then do not hesitate and ask to show you the certificates of such training and admission to breeding.
Step 5
So, the question of the authenticity of the documents and the decency of the breeder has been resolved. Now you can start choosing a puppy. Where to begin? What should you pay attention to first? Of course, on the physical condition of babies. Puppies should look healthy, mobile. Do not believe the words that they have just woken up or are about to eat, because they are so lethargic. The coat should be shiny, glossy, lie flat, not bristle with a hedgehog. The skin is smooth and clean. There should be no discharge from the dog's nose, eyes and ears. The eyes are shiny, not cloudy. Look at the puppy's tummy. It shouldn't be too chubby. In the place where the navel should not have a pronounced tubercle. All the puppy's teeth must be in place (the absence of some teeth is allowed only in hairless dog breeds)
Step 6
Now it remains only to choose a puppy by temperament. You should not choose the nimbleest or the most modest puppy. Take each puppy in turn. Flip onto your back and hold in this position. Take a puppy that resists a little and calms down. A puppy that obeys immediately may grow into a cowardly dog later on. And with a puppy that is constantly dodging, trying to bite and break free, in the future there may be difficulties in raising and training, especially if it is a dog of a large service breed.
