Chinchillas are very clean animals by nature. Their thick fur looks well-groomed if the animal regularly takes sand baths. In addition, chinchillas are very funny to swim and it is very interesting to watch them during this procedure.
Instructions
Step 1
Visit a pet store and buy special dust or bath sand for your pet. The use of river or sea sand is unacceptable due to the high content of pathogenic bacteria. In addition, the grains of these types of sand are irregular in shape, which contributes to damage to the chinchilla's fur and poor moisture absorption. The ideal option for swimming is volcanic dust, in which animals take a bath while in their natural habitat. When buying sand, read carefully what is written on the package. It must be made from natural materials, have bactericidal properties and not cause allergies.
Step 2
After purchasing, be sure to check the quality of the product. To do this, rub some sand between your palms. There should be no large blotches in the sand so that it does not scratch the skin. A quality product will leave behind a small deposit of sand dust. Place a few drops of water on the sand. If it immediately absorbs moisture into itself and sticks together into a lump, which, when rubbed, turns into a clay mixture, then the sand is good.
Step 3
Buy a special chinchilla bathing suit from the pet store. For one individual, you can buy a small container, and for several - a closed terrarium. But a regular round aquarium or a three-liter jar may also work.
Step 4
For disinfection and prevention of fungal diseases, mix sand with fungistop. For a swimsuit, 5 grams of the drug is enough for one chinchilla. Sift the sand through a fine sieve and fill the bathing container with it. Place it in the chinchilla's cage and watch the animal take a sand bath. You need to bathe the chinchilla twice a week, and if the room temperature exceeds 25 degrees Celsius, bathe the animal every other day. After the hygiene procedure, remove the bathing suit from the cage. Before each bathing, the sand must be sieved, and every three months it must be replaced with a new one.
