The appearance of puppies in a dog is a joyful event, which the owners need to approach responsibly. Often, uninformed people believe that pets do not need any help and are able to cope with childbirth on their own. However, this opinion is erroneous. Childbirth is very stressful for the dog and can be fraught with complications. It is very important that the owner at this moment was present next to the pet, was able to provide her with the necessary assistance and was able to call the veterinarian at home in an emergency.

Instructions
Step 1
At the preparatory stage for childbirth, you need to make sure that the pregnant dog has a place. It needs to be equipped about a week and a half before the expected date. Usually, before giving birth, the dog independently chooses a convenient place. However, she needs the close attention of the owner throughout the entire process, so she should not be allowed to cram under the bed or settle in another secluded place.
Step 2
You can place your dog on the mattress by placing it on the floor and covering it with plastic wrap and sterile absorbent diapers. But the bed for giving birth to a dog is not suitable, because if the owner is distracted for a second, a pet or a newly born puppy may fall from it, which is fraught with sad consequences.
Step 3
It is better to use a box for giving birth to a dog. The latter should be protected from drafts and sufficiently spacious. There must be free access to the place so that you can provide your pet with assistance in a timely manner.
Step 4
In addition to the place where the birth process will take place, you will need to equip the box in which the newborn puppies will be for the first time with their mother. The cardboard box where the kids will live should be of such a size that the dog can easily roll over in it, stretch in all directions, stand up to its full height so that at the same time there is room for the puppies. At the same time, this container should not be very large, since it is more difficult to maintain the optimal temperature in a spacious "den".
Step 5
The box should not have a top. Instead, you should throw a diaper on top and attach it with clothespins to the cardboard. It is advisable to cut the entrance to the "den" at a certain height from the floor, so that the dog can freely enter inside, and its cubs cannot crawl out. At the bottom of this box, you need to lay a mattress, wrapping it in a plastic bag. The latter, in turn, should be covered with a soft, dense pillowcase.
Step 6
Before giving birth to a dog, you need to thoroughly rinse the abdomen and genitals, trim the hair on the belly and around the loop. If the animal has a beard or long mustache, it is also better to cut them off so that they do not interfere with the biting of the umbilical cord. The long hair on the tail should be bandaged, but not too tight so that the coat does not interfere with the dog and puppies.
Step 7
If you are going to deliver your dog at home or want to help the vet, make sure your hands are sanitized and clean and your fingernails are trimmed short. You should wear comfortable clothes that you will not mind throwing away after the dog is born.
Step 8
Childbirth of small dogs is often protracted, the animal gets tired, exhausted, she runs out of strength. To cheer up your pet, you can give her sweet tea during childbirth.
Step 9
It is best to make an appointment with a veterinarian in advance, who can come to you in an emergency, if the delivery of the dog suddenly turns out to be complicated. Remember, any dog may need help with childbirth. In particular, the risk of difficult birth is increased in pets that are small breeds or are giving birth for the first time.
Step 10
After giving birth, the dog should rest for several hours. You do not need to immediately start admiring the newly-born offspring and call all relatives to show the puppies. All this can be done later.
