Rabies is a serious disease in animals and humans caused by a specific rhabdovirus. The source of the disease is an infected wild animal. It is extremely important to be able to identify the main symptoms when they appear, immediately contact the nearest veterinary station.
Instructions
Step 1
The incubation period in animals ranges from one week to several months. A characteristic sign of the disease in the first stage is a change in behavior - a calm, good-natured animal becomes angry and irritable, does not respond to the call of the owner, hides in a corner. Conversely, a previously evil animal becomes affectionate and unreasonably animated. There is an increased sensitivity to noise and light, refusal of favorite food, eating inedible objects. The body temperature rises slightly. Hydrophobia (hydrophobia) is not always a hallmark of rabies.
Step 2
By the end of the second day of illness, there are signs of clouding of consciousness, the dog barks for no reason, the voice becomes hoarse, the animal gasps for air, makes other atypical involuntary movements. As a result of growing excitement, she rushes out of the house, nervously walks around the yard or room. At this stage, the animal can bite the owner's hand, bite other animals. In some cases, there is spontaneous urination, increased libido.
Step 3
After a day, all of the above symptoms intensify. The dog tries to run away, hide from prying eyes. While tethered, she tries to break the chain or destroy the enclosure by throwing herself on the grates. Having escaped, the dog can run many kilometers without stopping. Meeting other dogs along the way, she silently attacks them, bites in the head. The feeling of fear atrophies, the feeling of aggression dominates. At this stage, signs of paralysis begin to appear. Increased salivation begins due to difficulty swallowing.
Step 4
After that, the paralytic stage sets in, in which the animals have a characteristic appearance - tousled hair, a drooping lower jaw, a falling tongue, constantly flowing saliva. Paralysis of various parts of the body is added, the animal no longer rages, it is depressed and soon practically stops moving. On the 8-10th day, the sick die.
Step 5
Rabies is even worse in cats than in dogs. Symptoms of the disease come on suddenly, anxiety and agitation increase sharply. The meow becomes hoarse, the cat avoids the owners, refuses food. The next day, the animal becomes aggressive, attacks dogs and people with anger. The agitation lasts 1-2 days, and then paralysis develops. Often, cats from the very beginning of the disease are hunted into a secluded place and do not leave there until the day they die. It comes in 2-5 days.
Step 6
When signs of rabies appear, it is deadly to self-medicate the animal. It must be put to sleep, since it is impossible to save it. It is important to prevent contamination of humans and other animals. The most effective way to combat this disease is prevention through vaccination with rabies vaccines.
