Hunting in the life of lions, like any other predator, is of paramount importance. This is the only way to get food, which is necessary for the continuation of life. Lion hunting has its own characteristics, due to the lifestyle of these predators and their physiological structure.

Instructions

Step 1

Lions live in small flocks consisting of a male, several females and their cubs. The responsibility of obtaining food in each such flock rests with the lionesses, while the lion is responsible for the safety of its family and participates in the procreation. Since lions are not as fast hunters as, for example, cheetahs, they try to attack prey all together - this increases the chances of a successful hunt.

Step 2

Lions get food in three ways: by hunting alone, taking it away from others, or picking up those animals that have died of old age. Usually the hunt begins at sunset, but with a strong feeling of hunger, lions can hunt at any time of the day or night. Moreover, these predators see as their prey any living creature that moves, be it a zebra, a mouse or a hippopotamus. Of course, large ungulates are a special treat for lions.

Step 3

Having noticed a herd of ungulates, lionesses quietly creep up as close as possible to their victims, and then suddenly attack them. Their hunt is often unsuccessful, since they cannot pursue their prey for a long time, unlike the same cheetah. However, if at least one animal is temporarily stunned by a strong blow from a lioness, it will hardly be possible to leave, since other members of the lion's family will immediately come to the rescue.

Step 4

Lions also often hunt near water bodies - there they can quietly wait for their victims throughout the whole day. This method is often used by those lions who have to hunt alone. As a rule, lions do not attack animals that are much larger than them. Nevertheless, a hungry predator can attack a very large buffalo or hippopotamus.

Step 5

Lionesses must bring their prey to the family. The male has the right to feed his stomach first. Only after the lion is full can the lioness begin to eat. And kids in families eat leftovers. Often, the lion has to drive the females away from the almost eaten prey so that the little lion cubs can also get their share.

Step 6

A hungry adult lion can eat up to 30 kg of food in one meal, and after a while another 15 kg. After that, for 1-2 days, he may not hunt at all, since such an amount of meat saturates him for a long time. The peculiarity of these animals is also that they kill exclusively to satisfy hunger. A well-fed lion will never attack animals running around.
