Pregnant goats require special attention. During this period, food should be of high quality, enriched with vitamins. The correct diet is the key to healthy offspring and productivity.
What is included in the diet of pregnant goats
Goat pregnancy lasts five months. Three weeks after successful mating, milk yield decreases in milking breeds. They are sent to launch them 1, 5-2 months before lambing. During an interesting position, the animal needs careful care. Cold water, poor quality, moldy, spoiled feed can provoke a miscarriage. You cannot overfeed the expectant mother, excess weight will complicate childbirth. A fat goat two to three weeks before lambing is "put on a diet", the amount of feed is reduced, instead of juicy feed they are given warm swill with bran and boiled root crops. Good content guarantees a safe escape from the burden.
The diet of animals includes corn, oats, barley. The grain should be dry, of good quality, without a musty smell, and crushed. The diet contains potato skins, beets, carrots, pumpkin, Jerusalem artichoke. They are fed raw - they are a source of vitamins and should be finely chopped. Prepare mash - steamed grain with kitchen waste: dry bread crumbs, vegetable peelings. During the dry period, mash is removed from the diet, because they contribute to milk production.
The amount of feed per unit
An approximate menu for one head: in the morning 200 g of grain, 500 g of root crops; at lunchtime, a hay box; in the evening, 100 g of grain and cake, hay from herbs with coarse stems: sweet clover, rape. Compound feed in granules will be a complete substitute for grain. 15 days before giving birth, goats are excluded from the menu. In winter, it is useful to feed brooms from aspen, birch, willow, coniferous trees. Young coniferous shoots contain many vitamins. Nettle brooms are well eaten. They are cooked in June-July. Dairy goats eat sugar beets, but it causes fermentation, which is harmful during pregnancy, therefore, this product is removed for a period of 2-3 months.
Females of downy breeds are given 2.5 kg of hay, 1.5−2 kg of silage per day; in early spring birth, 0.2 kg of compound feed is added. In the body of goats, the downy productivity of young animals is laid, for normal development it is important to add swill with bran to the dry feed, they have a lot of fiber, and root crops.
Mineral additives are required: charcoal, chalk or crushed eggshells. Goats should always have salt (lick). The water should be drunk clean, at room temperature, it is useful to drink them with a tea mushroom broth or an infusion of hay dust. Vitamins will be useful - 5 drops of "Trivit" daily. When housing animals in stalls, daily walks are necessary.
