Squirrels are funny and cute animals that live both in forests and in city parks and squares. These animals do not hibernate for the winter, so it is not surprising that urban and rural residents are trying to feed the rodents. For squirrels, as for birds, you can make a feeder.
It is necessary
- - box;
- - two pieces of plywood;
- - wooden pallet;
- - rope;
- - nails;
- - an ear of corn;
- - feed.
Instructions
Step 1
The only difference between a squirrel feeder and a bird feeder is its size. The squirrel "canteen" should be larger than the bird's and with a larger entrance. However, dexterous rodents can independently expand the entrance of a cramped bird feeder, simply gnawing through it.
Step 2
The easiest option is to make a feeder out of the box. But, if milk cartons are suitable for sparrows and titmouses, then for a squirrel dining room it is better to choose a larger container. A teapot box, for example, will do. In the side wall, cut out an entrance through which the animal can easily climb into the feeder and get out back. Attach a rope to the top wall. To do this, cut out small holes, thread the ends of the rope through them and tie the knots on the back. Now the feeder can be hung in the forest.
Step 3
Wooden feeders for squirrels look very nice. To create it, you will need a wooden pallet with sides and two pieces of plywood. Pieces of plywood are held together by small studs on top of each other and nailed to the edges of the pallet. Such a feeder can be either hung on a tree or placed on a low post, along which it will be convenient for the animals to climb.
Step 4
A simple, but very beloved feeder by squirrels will be an ear of corn, put on a sharp branch or suspended by a rope from a tree. The convenience of this feeder is that pigeons and tits often steal food from squirrel feeders, and corn is too hard food for them.
Step 5
As mentioned above, for squirrels, the size of the feeder is not so much important as its contents. Offer the squirrel pine nuts, hazelnuts, dried mushrooms, flax or oat seeds, sunflower seeds. Remember that the hardest time for squirrels is early spring (squirrel stocks of seeds and nuts begin to sprout and become unusable), so do not stop feeding when the cold weather recedes.
