Constipation is an insidious thing that affects not only people, but also pets. And if a person, in order to alleviate his condition, can still eat vegetables, sauerkraut or prunes, all these products cannot even be forced into a cat. Veterinarians in such cases prescribe petroleum jelly. But what's the right way to give it to a kitten?
It is necessary
- - a syringe without a needle;
- - scales.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a break from eating until the animal goes to the toilet. If constipation continues for more than a day, the kitten should be kept on a starvation diet. It so happens that cats themselves stop eating or noticeably lose their appetite, but some eat food with the same eagerness as in a healthy state. Remember that there is no waste-free production. Everything that the animal eats must go outside, and until the intestines have the opportunity to cleanse themselves, it is not worth aggravating the situation. Milk or water in a bowl must be present.
Step 2
Calculate your medication dose. The minimum amount of petroleum jelly for a single serving is 0.2 cubes per 100 grams of weight. To make measuring easier, use a syringe without a needle. One division of a syringe into 2 cubes will approximately correspond to the norm per 100 grams of a kitten. Get ready for the pet to be fed with petroleum jelly without much enthusiasm. The required dose can be divided into several doses.
Step 3
The best way to feed your kitten with medicine is to pick it up and inject it with a quick, firm movement directly into your mouth from a syringe. However, petroleum jelly is not water, so it is not immediately swallowed by a cat. Keep in mind that if you are giving a large amount at one time, you need to give the animal a chance to swallow it. Make sure the kitten does not gag or choke. After everything is done, rinse the syringe and hands and wait two hours. Taking medicine for severe constipation must be repeated until the kitten goes to the toilet.
