Almost all dog owners have had to deal with the problem of diarrhea in their pets. It is necessary to treat this painful condition extremely carefully. Unfortunately, very often diarrhea in a puppy is one of the symptoms of severe infectious diseases. This type of diarrhea can lead to rapid dehydration and death of the puppy.
At the first sign of diarrhea, you must stop feeding the baby. Be sure to provide your puppy with clean drinking water. Measure your baby's temperature. You should be aware that the normal body temperature of a puppy can range from 38, 2 to 39 degrees, depending on its breed. If the baby's body temperature is more or less than these values, this is a reason for an immediate visit to the veterinarian. Observe the puppy carefully. If the baby refuses to play, becomes weak and tries to lie down all the time, then it is better not to risk it and take him to the veterinary clinic. Another reason for contacting specialists is the appearance of vomiting and the presence of blood in the stool. In the absence of vomiting and fever, you can try to cope with diarrhea on your own. Do not feed your baby for 24 hours. To prevent dehydration, it is recommended to give the puppies a solution of rehydron. The daily amount of solution is determined based on the weight and age of the puppy. To prevent the absorption of toxins, it is necessary to give the baby adsorbents. As an adsorbent, you can use polyphepan or activated carbon. The next day, give the puppy rice water or other "folk" remedies - infusions and decoctions of sage, St. John's wort, pomegranate crusts, blueberries. Weak sweetened tea is also suitable as a remedy for diarrhea. For several days after diarrhea, you need to keep the animal on a sparing diet. Give your puppy boiled rice, lean broths, low-fat cottage cheese, and boiled chicken. It is advisable to give the baby drugs to restore the intestinal microflora. However, you should not prescribe them yourself - the microflora of the intestines of a person and a puppy are different, therefore, "human" drugs, most likely, will not suit him. Check with your veterinarian and follow their recommendations. To avoid diarrhea in puppies, vaccinate animals on time, and carefully select food and follow the correct diet.
