From the very first day, as a puppy appeared in your house, he needs to come up with a nickname. Any dog gets used to it pretty quickly, within three or four days of being in the house. Take your nickname seriously. You will often refer to your pet. You will have to say his nickname every hour, for example, while training, feeding or walking on the street.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a nickname that matches the puppy's sex and does not cause unpleasant associations. The euphony of the nickname will appeal to others, and will cause them sympathy for the dog. Therefore, do not come up with nicknames that carry any negative meaning. It should be short and easy to pronounce. Don't use human names, place names, or military ranks. The nickname should be simple.
Step 2
Pronounce the name loudly and clearly, so that the dog understands that it is her name. Repeat it periodically, even if you don't need to call your dog. As soon as the puppy pays attention to you and runs up to you, reward him for his quick wits, pet or treat him with a delicious treat. In this case, repeat the nickname several times.
Before feeding the puppy, lift his feeder, call him, wait for him to respond and come up to you, and only then lower the bowl of food to the floor. Repeat the nickname a couple of times also while feeding the puppy.
Develop your puppy's ability to respond immediately to a call, even if he is distracted by something. Before feeding, be sure to wait until the dog is distracted from the bone or toy, stops watching the cat and hears you calling. Feed the puppy only after he himself pays attention to the fact that the owner is calling him to eat.
Step 3
Strengthen the developed skill daily. Encourage and praise your puppy every time he pays attention to your calling and runs up to you. Gradually reduce the number of rewarding gestures. In the future, there will be no need to praise a puppy for responding to his nickname. Only if in the future he suddenly stops responding to it, you can return to rewarding delicacies for a while.
Step 4
A puppy at the age of three months usually gets used to the nickname, so you just have to consolidate and improve this skill. Over time, replace the reward in the form of treats with verbal praise, such as exclaiming "good!" and "well done!" Remember that the puppy must respond to his nickname in a timely manner. If the dog does not respond immediately, then the skill has not yet been fully developed.
Complicate the task of improving the skill, call your pet when he is distracted by something. You can do the exercise in combination. For example, call your pet, saying the nickname, give the command "to me!" and then "walk!" But you should not pronounce the dog's name too often during training, otherwise the dog will follow the command only if the command was combined with the nickname.
