Step 1
Before going to the pet store, you need to decide on the volume of the aquarium. Small fish are suitable for a small aquarium, for example, schooling: neons, guppies, barbs. But it will be hard for a goldfish or a large representative of the cichlid family to live in a 20 liter "jar". It is best to adhere to the following formula: for one fish less than 3 cm in size, 1 liter of water is needed, from 3 to 5 cm - about 3 liters, and for a fish about 12 cm - at least 10 liters.
Step 2
Before buying fish, equip your aquarium with shelters and plants. Macrognatus, aperonotus, many species of catfish love secluded places. And cichlids, scalars, molyneses, guppies, neons, zebrafish and goldfish, on the contrary, love a large space for movement.
Step 3
Aeration and cleaning equipment must be selected in advance. The better and higher quality it is, the more fish you can get. For example, not 5, but 7, but not more.
Step 4
Aquarium fish can be divided according to the type of temperature that is comfortable for them. Guppies, neons, molynesias, gouramis, barbs, etc. prefer warm water - 27-30 degrees. And for cold-loving fish - crucian carp, goldfish, burbot, zebrafish and tetras, a temperature of 23-25 degrees is suitable.
Step 5
Strike a balance between slow and agile fish. Some slow fish, such as goldfish, telescopes, gourami, will not get along with fighting cockerels or barbs. At the same time, a lively flock of neons may not be swallowed "out of malice" by large goldfish. Sticky catfish can be eaten by barbs if you do not feed them during the time or make enough shelter for the catfish. There are many tricks in the aquarium hobby, it is not for nothing that many single it out as a separate science.
Step 6
Do not forget about what you want to see in your aquarium. If you come after a hard day's work and, looking at the "underwater world", want to relax, it is better to take calm fish, which, like a pendulum swinging from side to side, will calm your nerves and bring harmony to your soul. If you want “fights without rules”, the cockerels or barbs, which sometimes arrange “something”, are suitable for you!
Step 7
