Corella is one of the most popular species of parrots, therefore it is very often kept in captivity. If you decide to buy a cockatiel, make sure in advance that the bird has a suitable size, as spacious and comfortable as possible. Sometimes parrots are sold already tamed, but in most cases they shy away from people, so they can hardly be called tame. If you come across just such a bird, do not despair - it is not so difficult to tame a cockatiel.
- Once you buy a cockatiel, try to bring it home right away and transplant it into a suitable cage. The cage with the bird should be covered with a dark dense cloth and left in a quiet, calm place - the bird should calm down and get used to its new habitat. This type of parrot is not distinguished by the most durable and hardy nervous system, so the bird experiences severe stress when moving and changing surroundings. The first few days, Corella may refuse to eat, and drink water at a time when there are no people in the room with the cage. This is normal for this species of parrots, so don't worry. At this stage, you just need to make sure that there is always food and a drinking bowl with fresh water in the cage with the bird.
- Even if your pet is nervous because of a change in scenery, you should not completely deprive her of human society. Just place the bird cage in such a way that it can always see the approach of a person in advance. But often you should not open the cage and look inside - minimize the number of direct contacts with the parrot. It is good if the cage allows you to change food and water without disturbing the cockatiel. That is why it is better to choose cages with mounted drinkers and feeders, as well as an easily retractable tray - it can be easily cleaned without disturbing the bird.
- When interacting with a bird, try to eyes - this behavior can be perceived as a threat. If you are going to make friends with the bird, approach it smoothly, without making sudden movements or raising your voice. To tame the cockatiel, you need to gradually establish contact with it, offering treats from your hands. Sooner or later the bird will get used to you, and will fearlessly sit in your arms. Particularly shy individuals should spend more time in a darkened room, and it is advisable to perform all manipulations with the cage only after preliminary darkening.
