Instructions
Step 1
If you do not have a specialized veterinary education, then first of all, find a good specialist in this area who will do the cropping of your pet's ears and tail. If you are taking a dog from a breeder, then negotiate a docking with him. Many breeders have veterinary skills and do the cupping themselves. Or they can advise an experienced and trusted veterinarian.
Step 2
Usually, puppies are docked at the age of 3 to 10 days, when sensitivity is minimal and tissue healing occurs very quickly. This is usually done by breeders. Can be stopped at an older age. But this is done under anesthesia and sutures. Therefore, take care of tail docking in advance.
Step 3
With the ears, the matter is more serious. It is difficult to trim the ears of puppies in the first days of life, since it is difficult to predict the ratio of the proportions of the dog's body and muzzle in the future. Therefore, the ears are cut off at 2 to 3 months, usually 14 days after the first vaccination. Find an experienced veterinarian and arrange for surgery. Do not feed your dog for 8 hours before docking.
Select the shape of the ear using a special stencil. The doctor will give the dog a general anesthesia, cut the edge of the ear according to the selected stencil. After that, he will suture and wrap with a bandage so that there is no bleeding. After surgery, put on a protective collar for the dog so that it does not scratch its ears or harm them. It can be made from cardboard. The pet will have to wear the collar for 7-10 days before the stitches are removed. Treat the edges of the pet's ear with brilliant green. If necessary, start putting your dog's ears on from the second day after surgery. Pull out your ear and wrap with tape. Before removing the stitches, gently massage and stretch the edge of the ear to avoid puckering. If you have any difficulties, it is better to consult your veterinarian for advice.
