The most acute problem of reducing milk yield is in the autumn-winter period, when the amount of green fodder decreases and grazing stops. To increase the amount of milk, the cow needs to be properly fed and maintained.
Instructions
Step 1
During the period when it is impossible to graze the cow, ensure proper feeding. 70-80% of the milk received comes from proper feeding and maintenance. The remaining percentage indicates the performance of a particular breed of cow.
Step 2
The diet should contain juicy feed, mineral and vitamin supplements for the entire winter period. The cow should be fed 3 times a day, in some cases it is better to introduce four feedings.
Step 3
Be sure to give enough high-quality hay and root crops. Of the root crops, the most milk-producing product is sugar beet and sugar beet pulp, but potatoes, carrots, and cabbage should also be present. All root vegetables should be given only in chopped form.
Step 4
Silage can be given if it has been properly laid and has not rotted. If fed with poor quality silage, the milk will acquire an unpleasant taste and smell.
Step 5
Also in winter there should be a mash of cereals with the addition of skim milk, buttermilk or whey. It is good to add high-quality cake to the cow's diet.
Step 6
If the weather is sunny and with little frost, the cow should be allowed to walk for several hours.
Step 7
To increase milk yield, you need to milk a cow three times a day at the same time. Milking should be done quickly because the main milk flow ends in 4-6 minutes. If during this time you do not have time to milk everything, then there will be less milk, and the cow may get mastitis. Milking three times a day should be stopped if the cow is pregnant, and before calving, milking should be stopped altogether.
