Sometimes a weak baby comes across in a litter of newborn kittens. Active brothers and sisters push him away from the nipples, and the mother cat often ignores such a kitten, preferring strong offspring. As a result, a weak animal may die. But if you notice it in time and take the issue of nutrition into your own hands, the baby is quite capable of gaining weight and regaining health.
It is necessary
- - substitute for cat milk;
- - nipples;
- - baby food;
- - cow's milk;
- - an egg;
- - canned meat for children;
- - boiled chicken.
Instructions
Step 1
Monitor your cat's behavior. If she pays as much attention to a weak baby as to the rest of the kittens - she licks him, does not push him away from herself - it is quite possible to leave him in the nest. But if the mother decided that one of the babies is not viable, she can completely ignore him and even show aggression. In this case, it is better to isolate the kitten.
Step 2
Place it in a warm place - for example, in a box with a heating pad covered with soft rags. You will have to feed your baby often - newborns need food every two hours, older babies eat a little less often.
Step 3
The easiest way is to feed the kitten with ready-made cat milk concentrate. Buy a powder from a pet store that must be diluted with warm boiled water in accordance with the instructions on the package. Don't forget to get the pacifiers from which you will feed your baby.
Step 4
During feeding, do not turn the animal onto its back - it may choke. It is more convenient for the baby to eat in a natural position, lying on his stomach and having a support for the front legs. Place a folded rag on your lap, lay the kitten down and hold the nipple bottle parallel to the floor line.
Step 5
If you were not able to purchase a ready-made concentrate and nipples, get by with the means at hand. Mix 4 to 1 heated cow's milk with egg white. Formulas for babies can also be used. Dilute them by taking twice as much water as recommended in the instructions. Instead of a nipple, use a homemade plastic housing design from a ballpoint pen, onto which you put the rubber part of the pipette with a pre-punched hole. For normal digestion, the kitten must suck - which means that you should not use a syringe for feeding.
Step 6
You can check how well the kitten is eating with a scale. He should add about 100 grams every week. A well-fed animal does not squeak, does not try to suck your fingers or the corner of a diaper. After feeding, he should sleep peacefully.
Step 7
Three weeks after birth, your baby needs more nutritious food. Start feeding it with finely chopped egg, baby canned meat, or boiled and minced chicken. Watch out for stool - with normal digestion, it happens twice a day. If the kitten has diarrhea, stop feeding for a while and dilute the formula at a weaker concentration.
Step 8
Formulated kittens may have trouble defecating, especially if the mother does not lick them. Help your baby - wet a corner of the diaper with warm water and gently massage the kitten's abdomen and back, stimulating digestion and stool.
