A well-bred dog, on command or on a gesture, walks next to the owner without a leash. This can be achieved in a few days of training. The results depend on the temperament of the animal: calm and phlegmatic, as a rule, quickly get used to walking next to the owner during a walk, but active pets can also be taught if the training technique is used correctly.
It is necessary
- - leash;
- - delicacy.
Instructions
Step 1
The development of the “Nearby” command begins with walking the dog. Take her outside, let her run for ten to fifteen minutes. Then put on a short leash and hold it to the left 20 centimeters from the carabiner. Call the dog by its nickname and give the command "Near", making a jerk with the leash with your left hand. Now walk forward while guiding the dog. When changing the pace of movement, you need to repeat the command and jerk of the leash.
Step 2
If the pet starts to run ahead, then pull it back, if it moves to the side, pull the leash towards you. When the dog starts to follow the owner correctly, give it a treat and pet it. Remember that when practicing this technique, you cannot keep the leash taut - put the loop on your right hand so that there is a sag between your hands. When making a turn, first say "Near", then make a dash to the side where you are going to turn.
Step 3
On walks, constantly repeat these manipulations, train the dog in any weather. Gradually, you can start teaching how to walk alongside when there are distractions: if another dog or cat is running by, for example.
Step 4
Start practicing the gesture technique. Leash with the leash in your right hand and slap your left palm on your thigh. Repeat this until the dog understands the gesture in the same way as the "Near" command. Then start practicing off-leash walking.
Step 5
The technique is fully worked out when the dog, under any circumstances and in any conditions, walks next to the owner without a leash on the first command. If there is no way you can do this, you may be making mistakes in training. Do not jerk too hard or give very loud commands with threatening intonation. It is also not recommended to use a choke collar. Do not pull on the leash, the dog can get into the habit of pulling the owner with him. Always secure the gesture or command with a jerk of the leash.
