Blepharitis can be caused by various reasons: irritation of the eyelids by thermal, mechanical and chemical influences, as well as complications of bruises and wounds. Predisposing factors: depletion of the animal, metabolic disorders, vitamin deficiency. At the bases of the eyelashes, crusts or scales may form, and lacrimation is observed. Soften the crusts with lotions from a warm solution of 1% bicarbonate of soda and petroleum jelly. Lubricate the edges of the eyelids with 2% yellow mercury oxide ointment, iodoform or penicillin ointment twice a day. In advanced cases, the eyelids are treated with an alcohol solution of brilliant green 1%.

Acute catarrhal conjunctivitis is accompanied by itching, swelling of the conjunctiva, severe redness, and mucous discharge from the inner corner of the eye. On palpation of the eyes and eyelids - soreness. Cold lotions are used to treat this disease. Flush the conjunctival sac with a 3% boric acid solution. Use drops as an astringent - a solution of zinc sulfate 0.5%. Add adrenaline to zinc sulfate with severe hyperemia (one drop per milliliter).

Keratitis - inflammation of the cornea occurs in almost all animals. The disease can be superficial or deep. The cause can be injuries, blows or a foreign body, the effects of low and high temperatures, as well as infectious diseases. First, the cause of the disease should be eliminated. Flush the cornea with a solution of boric acid 3% or furacilin. Then put furacilin, xeroform, iodoform or yellow mercury ointment behind the eyelids. Heat is prescribed in the form of compresses, as well as irradiation with Minin lamps or Solyuks. With a purulent course of the disease, antibiotics and sulfonamides are prescribed.
