"Cestal" is a French-made anthelmintic drug for dogs. Taking tablets of this agent is normally tolerated by dogs of any age and weight category. Usually "Cestal" is made with liver flavor.
Components of "Cestal" and their action
The composition of "Cestal" contains such active substances as praziquantel, pyrantel pamoate and fenbendazole. As for the first component, it is especially effective against tapeworms in dogs. Praziquantel causes contraction of the muscles of helminths and their subsequent paralysis. Pirantel pamoat allows you to fight various types of nematodes. And fenbendazole is a broad spectrum anthelmintic. Its effect invariably comes to the death of parasites.
"Cestal" is a low-toxic drug for warm-blooded animals. But it should be taken in strictly defined doses.
Dosage of "Cestal"
If you decide to use Cestal as an anthelmintic for your dog, be sure to choose the correct dosage. Usually, the drug is prescribed depending on the body weight of the animal. If the dog weighs no more than two kilograms, you can give him no more than a quarter of one tablet. For pets weighing from 2 to 5 kg, half a tablet will be an acceptable dosage. For large enough dogs (weight from 5 to 10 kg) it is recommended to give a whole tablet of "Cestal". Then, for every 10 kg of weight, one tablet should be added. But you need to remember that you cannot give more than 5 tablets to infected dogs.
Responsible dog breeders always try to give Cestal for preventive purposes. Usually, a crushed tablet is added to the animal's food during the morning feeding. You can just hide the pill in a piece of minced meat or porridge. If your pet flatly refuses to eat food with "Cestal", it can be given forcibly. To do this, the drug will need to be displaced with water and introduced in the form of a suspension using a syringe. You can also place a tablet of this medicine yourself on the root of your dog's tongue.
Preventive procedures should be repeated every quarter. It is advisable to start worming puppies at three weeks of age. But deworming for medicinal purposes should be carried out as needed. Usually there are no side effects when using Cestal. As for contraindications, it is not recommended to take it simultaneously with iperazine.
