Attending dog shows in a purely utilitarian sense is necessary to get a “drawdown” grade. However, if you wish, you can enter the ring even at puppyhood. Ordinary owners, not familiar with the intricacies of dog breeding, do not always understand what it is for and how to schedule dog shows.
Shows for puppies
Often pedigree pets begin their show career as early as 4-6 months of age. Showing a dog at such a young age has two reasons. The first and foremost is the demonstration of young animals. It is very important for the breeder of your pet to show the breed community the results of his work, to find out the expert's assessment of the prospects of this or that puppy from his litter, and just to see the development of the dog. If you are interested in a successful show and breeding career of your pet, the tasks of the breeder serve your purposes as well. In addition, it is advisable to accustom the dog to exhibitions as early as possible, nevertheless this is an event, to the features of which you need to get used to.
Breeding and exhibitions - dogs champions
If dog shows are not part of your plans, but you would still like to breed a pet, you will have to get at least one assessment of the breed qualities of an adult dog not less than "very good" from an expert. This will give you the opportunity to fully participate in breeding and draw up all the required documents for litter within the framework of your canine organization.
However, it is still worth noting that dogs with one divorce rating are not taken seriously as breeders by pedigree breeders today, especially if they are males. For a more successful career as a manufacturer, you need to have at least a closed title of the Champion of Russia, and preferably of the Young Chechen Republic. To award these titles, you will need to exhibit the dog in the junior class until it gets 3 CAC and in the classes the interval, working and open, is also up to 3 CAC. The presence of at least one CACIB at the future manufacturer is highly encouraged. It is important to understand what all these acronyms mean. The fact is that in addition to evaluating a dog in the ring, an expert can award titles:
- CAC - a candidate for national champions of beauty - can be obtained at all-Russian and regional all-breed shows from the moment the dog reaches 15 months (for a junior diploma from 9 months);
- CACIB - a candidate for international champions of beauty - can be obtained at international exhibitions from 15 months (for a junior diploma from 9 months).
Dog Show Schedule - Calendar Compilation
Based on this information, calculate in advance how many and which exhibitions you will need to visit in order to collect the required number of titles. It is better to plan an additional 1-2 exhibitions with a margin, because there is always the possibility that you will have a strong opponent in the ring. The schedule of exhibitions for the current year in your city and region can be found in the nearest dog club.
Thus, it can be stated that for a more or less successful breeding of a dog, you will need to visit 4-5 exhibitions of CAC rank after the pet reaches 15 months. The presence of an assessment not less than "excellent" at a specialty show will be an additional plus. If you intend to seriously take up an exhibition career, start attending exhibitions from at least 9 months in order to have time to close the junior champion title. The schedule of dog shows for the coming year is also published on the RKF website.
