Snails are kept in aquariums not only for decorative purposes. Hardworking shellfish easily deal with fouling that forms on the walls of the aquarium and aquatic plants. The most popular snail species preferred by aquarists is the ampullary.
It is necessary
- - dioecious individuals;
- - two aquariums.
Instructions
Step 1
Ampuyaria are one of the few snails that are not hermaphrodites. And this is the first problem. For breeding, you will need at least two individuals of different sexes, but it is very difficult to distinguish between males and females of ampularia. Sexual dimorphism in snails is extremely weak. An attentive breeder may try to discern the copulatory organ of the male ampulla. It is located to the right under the sink on the opposite side of the "siphon" through which the snail draws in air. In females, a cavity formed by folds of the mantle is noticeable in this place. However, for the sake of reliability, novice aquarists prefer to buy several ampularia, among which dioecious individuals are most likely to be.
Step 2
For a comfortable life and reproduction, ampullaries do not need so much space. One snail should have ten liters of water. The aquarium must be closed with a lid. Leave a distance of 10-15 centimeters above the water, otherwise the snail will not be able to lay eggs.
Step 3
As a rule, the female leaves the clutch on the lid of the aquarium, its walls, or on the coverslip. The caviar is held quite firmly. If it does fall, put the masonry in a plastic lid, and put the lid on the surface of the water.
Step 4
Ampularia babies are born in about one and a half to three weeks. Small snails already have a fully formed shell. After they hatch, transfer the offspring to a separate aquarium or jar. It should be filled with water only five centimeters - small snails breathe air and are forced to float frequently.
Step 5
In the first month of life, ampullians should be fed with a boiled egg, later - with lettuce or cabbage leaves scalded with boiling water. Once the snails have reached two to three millimeters in length, they can be transplanted into the main aquarium.
