You bought a parrot, but for joy forgot to ask the seller what breed it is? It's okay, because, despite the fact that there are several hundred species of parrots, only a few are most common.
Instructions
Step 1
The most unpretentious for keeping at home are, of course, budgerigars. This is a small bird (10-12 cm), usually with grassy green plumage and wavy pattern along the back. On the cheeks of the parrot there is an elongated purple speck.
Step 2
A medium-sized parrot with a tuft on its head is a cockatiel (nymph). Plumage - from brownish-gray to dark gray. A distinctive feature is bright scarlet or orange spots in the area of the ears, and in the color of the wings, along with gray, and white can be present. In males, the crest is bright yellow, in females it is yellowish-gray.
Step 3
A large white parrot with a tuft on its head, which is able to straighten up when the bird is excited or nervous, is a cockatoo. If the parrot is completely white, it is the Alba cockatoo. Representatives of the cockatoo subfamily differ in the color of the crest: small (31-35 cm) and large (45-50 cm) yellow-crested, mollusks (up to 55 cm in size with a pink or red crest).
Step 4
The color of a gray parrot can be completely gray, but the feathers on a short, clipped tail are usually red or brown. The size of the parrot in the middle is 30-35 cm. Jaco has exceptional onomatopoeic abilities, he can reproduce both the barking of a dog and the creak of door hinges.
Step 5
However, the Amazon is the leader among the talking parrots. The color of the plumage of the Amazon is dominated by green, but red, blue, white, and yellow are also present. No wonder the Amazon subspecies are as follows: yellow-fronted, blue-fronted, red-tailed and even yellow-shouldered. The size of this "living rainbow" is average - from 25 to 40 cm, depending on the subspecies.
Step 6
The largest and one of the most beautiful parrots is the macaw. The size of the bird is up to 90 cm, and the wing length is up to 40. The color of the plumage is dominated by red, although, like the Amazon, there are many other shades. The bird can easily split anything with its large bent beak, therefore, despite its friendly disposition, it must be handled carefully.
