A dog show is not only a demonstration of the unique merits of different breeds, but also a serious test for four-legged friends and their owners. The future status of the pet at the exhibition depends on how you looked after the animal, how it was fed and raised. But in order to prepare a well-fed and well-groomed Yorkie for this test, other, no less serious measures are needed.
Instructions
Step 1
Tidy up your pet's coat. Take a basin, pour warm water into it, dilute a special shampoo for long-haired dogs in the water. Place the dog in a basin and, holding it with one hand, gently rinse the coat with a sponge with the other, moving from top to bottom. Wash off the soapy water with running water. Rinse a basin, pour warm water into it and dilute the conditioner in it, saturate the wool with it and rinse off after 5-10 minutes. Wrap the dog with a towel so that the water is absorbed, a little later, lightly dry the coat with a hairdryer. Press the top strands with a straightening iron, after applying the shine to the coat. Immediately before show, spray the coat with a protein spray, apply to a natural bristle brush and comb through.
Step 2
Conduct psychological preparation of the Yorkie for the exhibition. Train the animal to walk to your left: this will later be needed for a demonstration circle in the ring. Walk the dog with the leash in your left hand and constantly changing the route. Introduce your pet to other dogs on the walking area, but choose suitable objects to get to know such a fragile creature as the Yorkie.
Step 3
Teach your terrier to show teeth. This will be needed so that later the exhibition jury can determine the correctness of the bite. Sit next to the dog, and holding the upper jaw with one hand and the lower jaw with the other, command "Show your teeth!" At the same time, gently part the dog's lips and examine the bite, then carefully open the mouth to examine the teeth. If the dog follows your command without much protest, treat it to a tasty morsel, pet it.
Step 4
Teach your pet to walk beautifully around the ring and take a stance. Exercise regularly with your dog so that the effect is evident. During training, the dog must learn to take a position in such a way as if it is looking for someone or something. Give her the command: "Where is the ball?", "Where is dad?" (Sasha, Masha) or "Cat!" When training, enlist the support of your pets so that the target is always in the dog's field of view. After each successful execution of the command, treat the Yorkie and be sure to let him get closer to the ball, dad, Sasha, Masha, etc.
Step 5
Record the most advantageous position of the dog in the stance. Repeat the command several times every day so that the pet can remember this position. Pay attention to the fact that the dog is comfortable, it does not hunch over or whine. Gradually, from a few seconds to a few minutes, increase the time the Yorkshire Terrier is in a standing position.
Step 6
Clean the dog's ears weekly using special remedies for ticks and otitis media, wipe the eyes. In order to prevent the appearance of fleas and other parasites, purchase a special collar.
