Do you have a cat in your house who will soon have kittens, and you are afraid that at the moment when the birth begins, you will not be able to help her? In fact, in most cases, the animal can give birth on its own without any problems, and the presence of the owners during the birth of the cat is necessary for her rather in order to feel calmer and more confident. How can you help your cat during childbirth?

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, you need to prepare in advance for the cat a cozy place where she will give birth. In principle, an ordinary cardboard box is suitable for this, on the bottom of which you can put a clean towel folded in several layers. If the box is deep enough, then a hole can be cut in one of its walls through which a pregnant animal can easily both climb into the box and get out of it. Let your pet familiarize yourself with this nest - if she does not like it, then there is a great chance that she will come to give birth in your bed. If everything is in order, then place this box in a quiet place where the cat will not be disturbed.

Step 2

Approximately a day before the onset of labor, the cat begins to worry and intensively prepare its nest, and a couple of hours before the significant event, she in every possible way calls the owner to the place where the birth, in fact, will take place. Be sure to sit next to the animal, pet it and talk to it. This will surely have a calming effect on the cat, and then she will settle down and wait for the contractions to begin.

Step 3

When labor begins, the cat's temperature rises and its nose and ears become very hot. Watch how kittens are born: they should normally be born with their front legs forward. The mother cat must lick each of them, gnaw through the umbilical cord and eat the afterbirth that came out after the kitten. It is impossible to predict the duration of labor in advance. Between the birth of the first and last kittens, it can take 40-50 minutes or long hours. The owner should only talk to the cat and from time to time make sure that the process is going well, and there are no complications.

Step 4

If something goes wrong, be sure to contact your veterinarian. Nowadays, a veterinarian can be called at home, often even at night. It is possible that in fact everything is going fine, but only a veterinarian can determine this, even without being present when the cat gives birth. You can simply describe what is happening on the phone. In any case, ask your supervising veterinarian for permission to contact him if necessary.
